Our project’s goal is to unearth accounts of the Chinese who traversed and settled in the Catskill Mountains and surroundings, far from Chinatown and the homeland. We are also documenting all things Chinese in the region. But we need your help to put these stories—from early times to present day—on the map.
Share your personal photographs, remembrances, clippings, and other materials. Depending on your story, we may ask to schedule an oral history interview.

You do not have to be of Chinese descent to contribute—we are interested in how Chinese culture and influence has impacted the region and welcome hearing from anyone directly or indirectly connected to this topic.
We tend to use the term Chinese rather broadly to maximize our coverage. Please also note, the terminology surrounding China and Taiwan and their people has changed over time.
We acknowledge that the Catskills are located on the ancestral lands of the Mohican, Delaware, and Haudenosaunee. Please consider donating to the Iroquois Museum.
Volunteer to maintain this website and support an upcoming exhibition. We are also considering sponsorship opportunities.
The Chinese Catskills is administered by S. Wu with support from community members and other volunteers.
